Jim Kielman: Ubuntu Forums Ubuntu +1 update for April 13/2012

With the impending release of Precise Pangolin in two weeks, activity in the +1 sub-forum has mostly been the same questions we see in the other support sub-forums. We are slowly stopping the movement of support threads, and by the middle of next week, we will stop moving any threads at all.

There was a question brought up by a forum community member wondering about the many differences between 10.04 and 12.04, I’m sure there will be many LTS users that don’t keep up with what’s new in Ubuntu that will be in for a big surprise the first time they log into the desktop:

To those who do NOT use only LTS versions. Please be tolerant with us…

The thread has wandered off topic near the end, but it is something we should keep in mind, as most users seem to forget about checking the release notes before doing a fresh install, or an upgrade.

There have been some questions about the removal of the shutdown and restart .desktop files:

Logout on 12.04

Fortunately one of our more active members, mc4man, stepped up with a custom .desktop file that solved the original posters problem.

I think one of the things we will see quite afew questions about is:

unity dual monitor configuration

For myself personally, I have one system with dual monitors, and it works exactly the way it should.

The U+1 Testing team is in the process of getting ready for the QQ development cycle. We are planning a Test Day similar to what Fedora does. We feel that we can help make the next release a great one just like Precise. We are striving to do a better job of communication between developers and users for the releases to come.

As always, if you run into a problem with Precise, there may already be a solution in the Ubuntu +1 (Precise Pangolin) sub-forum .
