Hello all, this is a proposal to improve an event that I think is really useful.
First of all I want to say I have been part of the User Days event since
the beginning. I have worked on the Spanish edition, so my proposal is nothing
against the event itself.
Well here I go, I think we need to change the name or creattUser Days in favour of
the “Welcome Day” in the future editions, not this time. This means
instead of giving talks via IRC, people informally get together and have a meeting in a
park or garden and get to know each other and let each other know we are
regular guys and girls. All of us at one time or another didn’t know nothing about
Ubuntu, linux or computers and now we are part of a huge community of
people around the world that they can join, contribute, and make new friends.
And of course use a better OS.
Lots of new users have no clue how to use IRC,
taking this into account I think we could get out our caves and start connecting
to one another face to face. Face to face meetings allow participants to build strong social relationships.
We could organize events at parks and public squares. We could give flyers on the street,
hang them up at university or coffee shops to help get the attention of new people.
Get the full crowd from your loco talking in the street to new people.
I came up with this thanks to ideas from Eduardo Ricobaldi
(EduardoR), Daniel Mato, Magu42 , SergioMeneses and help from Duane Hinnen!!!
Here in Montevideo, we are excited about doing our first event in the
Visual Arts Museum’s Garden the 14th of January, we hope many other
people join the fun and start creating their own events across the community..
